Diabetes Is Not Just About Sugar

Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic disease that results in serious health complications and eventually death. People with diabetes suffer from heart attacks, limb amputations, kidney failure, blindness, and neuropathy. By the year 2020, over HALF of Americans will be diabetic or pre-diabetic. These numbers highlight how modern medical care has failed, because Type 2 Diabetes is PREVENTABLE, and usually reversible without drugs and injections. The traditional treatment of Type 2 Diabetes consists of bombarding the body with drugs in an effort to lower your blood sugar reading. This method has continued to fail because high blood sugar is not the disease, it’s the SYMPTOM. And just as giving cough medicine doesn’t cure Tuberculosis, giving pills and insulin won’t cure diabetes. The true disease is CHRONIC INFLAMMATION caused by excess fat and a LACK OF PLANT NUTRIENTS. And no amount of pharmaceuticals can reverse or halt this condition.

The first and critical step in reversing and preventing diabetes is WEIGHT LOSS. But although weight loss by any means will lower the risk of diabetes and improve blood sugar levels to some extent, only the adoption of a WHOLE FOOD PLANT-BASED DIET, consisting of a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, legumes and seeds, will correct the inflammatory destruction that occurs in the vessels and organs and leads to the debilitating complications that diabetics suffer from. Meat and animal products are highly inflammatory and create an inflammatory process resulting in toxic fatty breakdown products and free radicals that block the insulin signaling process. In fact, in 2018, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American College of Endocrinology released new guidelines. They state that “People with Diabetes should strive to attain and maintain an optimal weight through a primarily plant-based meal plan”. https://journals.aace.com/doi/10.4158/CS-2017-0153

Remember, diabetics rarely die from high blood sugar. They die from the cardiovascular complications like heart attacks and heart failure, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, as well as infections and kidney failure. So any diabetes plan should focus on reversing and preventing those complications. Diabetes isn’t just about sugar.  Reversing this disease takes a focused, whole food plant-based approach.
